Associate Director, Energy and Climate Policy

The Team:


The Americas Energy and Climate Policy Consulting Team is a trusted advisor of governments, investors and leading companies in the traditional and new energy sectors.

Typical studies range from analysis of international best practices, country energy policy review, support in development of oil and gas and energy legislation, analysis of decarbonization legislation, development of regulatory roadmaps for hydrogen and CCUS development, carbon markets and nature-based solutions.

The team consist of a combination of legal and policy experts that combine legal and policy review with technical and commercial analysis generated by other consulting teams within S&P Global.


The Impact:

This role will contribute to the execution of our team's projects for private and public sector clients with a focus on the applicable policies related to oil and gas and environmental and safety regulations for the sector, transition to low-carbon economies, including carbon pricing mechanisms, hydrogen policies, low carbon fuels, nature-based solutions and economic instruments related to decarbonization of the energy sector.


Responsibilities:

Conduct international best practices and author development of energy legislation and regulations

Author and develop energy transition policy reports in PowerPoint and/or Word

Effectively manage entire consulting projects or significant workstreams within a larger project, under the direction of the project manager or project director

Demonstrate expertise in the relevant energy sector policies, become a recognized expert on chosen topics of interest within the team and the broader organization

Support business development and proposal writing efforts

Challenge ideas and influence others in the team

Build consensus across the groups with competing priorities within the project team

Participate in client or industry events and share key takeaways that impact the consulting team's work and priorities

Participate in client meetings and lead the presentation of a project's reports

Engage with other consultants across business lines to deliver comprehensive solutions that address the client's needs.


What We're Looking For:

Seven to twelve years of experience in advising clients energy policy, in law firm, consulting, or international organization, in areas related to oil and gas legislation, GHG emissions policies and management, energy transition policies and/or carbon markets

Once priorities are agreed, the ability to work with autonomy with mínimal direction is preferrable

Minimum qualifications are JD or LL.M. or equivalent in energy policy, petroleum law, environmental management, or climate policy. A post-graduate degree is a plus (including in law, economics, or business).

Strong written and oral presentation skills in English and Spanish (Portuguese a plus).

Must have an analytical frame of mind and prepared to combine policy and market analysis.

Some travel is required average around 20% of time

Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment providing ideas and open feedback.
