Acerca de Sandra Reeve:
After spending last summer in Medellín and acquiring a huge passion for teaching, I am incredibly interested in the opportunity in applying for any available English teaching positions in or around Medellín. As an American teacher that has a strong admiration for teaching English as a foreign language, I confidently feel as though a position at your school would provide me with the desire to give my utmost dedication to make an influential contribution to your school. Even though I am currently an elementary school teacher, I have an immense passion for teaching students of all grade levels.
For the past five years, I have been working at a private International Baccalaureate school in Bellevue, Washington (a suburb outside of Seattle). I have been continuously gaining wonderful experience teaching as a prekindergarten teacher during these five years. The prekindergarten students at my school are advanced and I teach at an accelerated kindergarten and first grade level for these students. While being in the classroom with such an advanced group of 5-year-olds, I can adequately state that I teach math, language arts, social studies, and science at a first and second grade level with a diverse curriculum.
Teaching these advanced students has also allowed me to gain exquisite experience with teaching English (Language Arts) at even a first and second grade level with various topics throughout the year. Although all my students are all reading and writing at exceptional levels, at the same time, I have students on individual levels which I cater to while teaching the whole class.
Furthermore, in relation to working with students with a different background than mine, the school in which I teach has students of mostly an Asian population (mostly having backgrounds from India and China) and I excel in incorporating these diverse cultures into my classroom. Also, personally, I am Colombian (my mother is from Bogotá) and I am English (I was born in London and my father is English), therefore I have consistently found myself to be able to relate with my students as being both American and coming from a foreign home. In addition, I hold a Washington State teaching certification and I have a Master’s in Education from Southern Methodist University.
Uniquely, I spent last summer of 2022 in Medellín studying at a Spanish Immersion school in El Poblado. During my 3 months in Medellín, I became incredibly familiar with the Colombian culture, while practicing my high intermediate level of Spanish both in the classroom and with the welcoming residents of Medellín. I fell in love with the city and that summer persuaded me to finally make the decision to aspire to combine my passion for teaching and for experiencing being a dedicated resident of Medellín myself.
Therefore, I would really treasure the opportunity to work at your lovely school and to work diligently to make a difference in your students’ lives. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Sandra Reeve
