The Marina Orth Foundation is an international education NGO with over 10 years of experience based in Medellin, Colombia. At the Foundation, we teach students STEM + H (science, technology, engineering, mathematics + humanities) leaderships skills and develop extracurricular activities that focus on English and robotics. We believe that, given the tools and skills needed to compete in the 21st century, children from socioeconomically vulnerable backgrounds can perform equally or better than graduates of the best schools in the world.
The Foundation is looking for 9 English teacher volunteers willing to work for a period of 11 months.
• 4 volunteers within the city of Medellin
• 5 volunteers in El Carmen de Viboral, 1h from Medellin
They will plan and teach English classes in cooperation with the local teachers and run extracurricular English clubs. Depending on the position, the volunteer teaches between 3 to 5 hours/day, 5 days a week + 2h of extracurricular club per week + lesson planning.
Length of Service -
The Colombian school schedule includes a large number of long weekends + one week off for Semana Santa (March or April) + 2 weeks off in June + days off in October. Holidays are paid.
Language requirements -
The language requirements for this position are English fluency or C1-level proficiency and Spanish B1-level proficiency.
The volunteer stipend depends upon each volunteer's accommodations.
If the volunteer decides to live with a Foundation-provided host family, they receive free room and board and a monthly stipend of $350,000 cop, which is a bit more than $100 USD.
If the volunteer chooses to live independently, they must find their own accommodations and pay for their own living expenses, but they receive $900,000 cop/month, which is about $300 USD.
The foundation provides the document for the volunteer visa.
