Your Role

As a Gensler Senior Design Manager, you have a successful track record of managing all phases of architectural projects. You will have overall project responsibility for client satisfaction, quality control, and financial performance.

You will deploy resources to ensure the work process flows smoothly and act as the primary liaison between the team and the client.

What You Will Do

  • Manage all phases of projects, including project setup, design, and construction administration.
  • Manage project scheduling, budgets, and setup with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and consultants.
  • Prepare project proposals, negotiate contracts and fees, and coordinate bidding.
  • Track the financial performance of a project.
  • Assist with designing and delivering a project's architectural and technical aspects.
  • Possess proficient/advanced knowledge of architectural design principles, technical details, codes, and material characteristics.
  • Provide project team coordination for the finished plans, specifications, and material selections required for construction.
  • Resolution of complex technical and design issues during document preparation and construction administration.
  • Manage a range of project team sizes comprised of project architects, interior designers, and job captains.
  • Prepare and ensure the accuracy of technical documents
  • Participate in the construction administration of project assignments, including quality control
  • Works with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives.
  • Assist the technical team in conducting site inspections.
  • Manage client, team, and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, and civil consultants.
  • Support communication between the project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and building and permitting officials.
  • Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex technical and design challenges.
  • Ensure projects conform to the contract.
  • Conduct and document site visits, process submittals, substitution requests, and RFI's during construction.
  • Organize and manage project teams and assignments.
  • Ensure team members have the resources needed to do their work.
  • Ensure seamless communication and collaboration between team members.
  • Oversee coordination of projects.
  • Assist the technical team in project coordination for the plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, specifications, and material selections required for construction.
  • Manage project timelines and schedules.
  • Provide oversight in the revision of technical documents to ensure accuracy.
  • Coordinate consultants, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives.
  • Oversee the construction administration of project assignments, focusing on managing design intent and quality control.
  • Lead coordination with contractors, fabricators, and regulatory agencies to ensure the constructed project meets overall project objectives.
  • Understand how key decisions at the project level contribute to larger client sustainability goals.
  • Understand the social and environmental impact of design solutions in your area of practice
  • Facilitate the conditions for the team to develop impact assessments on projects together with a Design Resilience specialist.
  • Encourage the incorporation of best practices in the design modelling process
  • Understand the benefits of our IP tools (GBlox, GFloorz, GPlanet) and how they impact the project processes.
  • Advocate for the integration of DT workflows and tools from start to finish, together with the project leadership team.
Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Architecture or foreign equivalent. A Master's Degree is highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of project experience in an architectural practice
  • 10+ years of experience in largescale and complex projects.
  • Experience with the entire project lifecycle, through postoccupancy
  • Experience leading, managing, and mentoring multiple project teams.
  • Experience negotiating project scope and fees.
  • Construction documentation and/or design detail development experience
  • Working knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and build
