Role Purpose:


  • To maintain and enhance professional development and academic quality in the teaching center, through the management of inhouse teacher development programme and support
  • To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English
  • To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience
  • To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission

Accountabilities:


Teaching

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning needs and modes of learning
  • Ensure teaching meets British Council Global Teaching Standards, as well as organisational and learner expectations.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students' performance throughout their learning, and actively promote learner autonomy and progress
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council's position at the forefront of best ELT practices.

Teaching Centre Activities

  • Support teaching centre's activities and British Council plans
  • Attend staff meetings and otherwise contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students' needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team
  • Support local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service through dissemination of information and communications with students
  • Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards and uphold professional responsibilities and values. Ensure British Council's values and behaviours are reflected in their work

Customers & Stakeholders

  • Maintain good relationships with customers and colleagues
  • Ensure customers are aware of British Council's cultural relations role and help develop opportunity for students to gain some understanding of the UK and its values and to participate in intercultural interactions either in class or as out of class activity
  • Compliance
  • Ensure guidelines and policies are applied and upheld in relation to Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability, Health and Safety

  • Ensure Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is taken into account when planning and delivering lessons and engaging with customers and colleagues

Qualifications

Essentials

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL (global minimum standard)

Desirables

  • Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. DELTA/Trinity Diploma
  • TYLEC

Work Experience

Essentials

  • A minimum of 2 years postcertificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults.
  • You should have experience in teaching two or more of the following age groups:
  • Very young learners < hours)
  • Young learners aged 4 to hours)
  • Young learners aged 8 to hours)
  • Young learners aged 13 to hours)
  • Adults aged hours)

Desirables

  • Experience with Early Years (200+ hours)
  • University/Vocational students aged 18 to hours)
  • Line managing experience
  • Experience delivering training sessions
