The Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) and the Development Coordination Office (DCO) work to ensure that the UN's development activities in a given country are well-coordinated and aligned with the country's own development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN.
This helps to ensure that the resources and efforts of the UN and its partners are used effectively and efficiently to achieve sustainable development outcomes.
The United Nations in Colombia is supporting the government's Total Peace policy.The UN Country Team (UNCT) is composed of 27 agencies, funds and programmes, with mandates covering peace support, sustainable development, humanitarian response, gender, protection of children, and human rights, among other critical issues.
Sustaining peace remains one of the three priorities of UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, which guides the UNCT's joint action.
Close to one third of the UNCT's portfolio has been traditionally dedicated to sustaining peace.As Peace and Development Associate you support UNRCO as follows:
- Supports activities of the RC to ensure coherence of the UN System in Colombia;
- Supports the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and coordination with other strategic UN processes, with focus on stabilization and peace, including;
- Supports information sharing, identification of lessons learned and knowledge management for sustainable development, with focus on stabilization and peace;
- Etc.
Part of the Talent programme "Swiss Youth at the United Nations", this position is sponsored by the Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD).
The programme ensures that travel, relocation, life and health insurance costs are covered, and a monthly living allowance is paid.

Skills required:
For the programme:
- Swiss nationality;
- Master's degree;
- Ideally 12 months of relevant professional experience (min. 3 months max. 24 months);
- Excellent command of English and 2 official Swiss languages (one active = C1/C2, one passive = A2/B1);
- Proven interest in joining the international cooperation sector.
For this position:
- Master's degree in Economics, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Sciences or related field;
- Demonstrated interest and/or experience (ideally one year) in producing analysis, providing management advisory services, handson experience with development coordination, and/or design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects;
- Demonstrated interest and/or experience in a conflict and/or postconflict context, as well as work experience in Latin America are desirable;
- Fluent in English and Spanish;
- Driving license.
