The Department of Global Communications / Strategic Communication Division internship is for an initial period of three months with an opportunity for extension, but not to exceed six months, pending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.


Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.


This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Bogota, within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Strategic Communications Division (SCD), Department of Global Communications (DGC).


Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Public Information Assistant, and the support of the Centre ́s staff, the Intern will perform the following activities:

  • Provide general office support; assist in responding to complex information requests and inquiries received by UNIC Bogotá; draft media-oriented products and other communication documents.
  • Assist UNIC Bogotá in the production and delivery of communications products and services.
  • Assist in updating and further developing of internal databases and other administrative tasks.
  • Support the updating and development of UN websites managed by UNIC Bogotá as well as in the management of social media accounts, including researching, drafting, editing and designing content and responding to public inquiries.
  • Assist in the planning and organizing of public activities, such as press conferences, seminars, educational fora, exhibits and others.
  • Assist in the production and management of UNIC Bogotá ́s photographic material; by producing digital imaging; writing captions and supporting the operation of the Centre ́s archives.
  • Assist in the preproduction, production and postproduction UNIC Bogotá ́s video/film projects, radio programs and other multimedia projects, including live streaming.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,

b.

Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).


Applicants must also:

  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English and Spanish is required for the internship.
