  • Home to the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations people, St. Elias Community School is one of 8 Yukon schools who have joined the newly established First Nation School Board (FNSB) in the Yukon. Southern Tutchone is the traditional language of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations people. _
  • St. Elias Community school is a K412 school with approximately 145 students. We are actively seeking a committed and qualified educator who is dedicated to living in and being an active member of the Haines Junction community. Our educational professionals value authentic relationships and are committed to working with students, community, administration and the FNSB to make positive, progressive changes to education outcomes for learners of Haines Junction. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:_
  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent with coursework and experience in Special Education;
  • Experience working with and facilitating collaborative multidisciplinary School Based Team supporting classroom teachers in identifying and programming for students with diverse learning needs;
  • Experience demonstrating opportunities to maximize student potential in both inclusive classrooms and special education teaching experiences;
  • Understanding of and experience delivering differentiated learning pedagogy is an asset;
  • Experience teaching in a multigrade class is an asset;
  • Experience integrating selfregulation and socialemotional care practices in the classroom;
  • Experience working with Indigenous learners in a culturally diverse community is an asset.;

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:


  • Eagerness to learn about and integrate Champagne & Aishihik First Nations culture & worldview, and the Southern Tutchone language in the classroom;
  • Keenness to live, work, and participate as an active member of the Champagne & Aishihik First Nations community;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain an authentic relationship with Champagne & Aishihik First Nations government, Educational Support Workers (ESW), community Elders, and families, promoting greater community involvement in schoolbased activities and educational programming;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to develop meaningful relationships, canvas and record progress, and motivate learners;
  • Solid understanding of a philosophy of inclusive education, excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, coaches, the First Nation School Board and other partners;
  • Demonstrated ability to implement restorative practice and positive behavioral interventions and supports;
  • Demonstrated ability to implement effective support systems to assist atrisk students (e.g., mentorship opportunities, study groups);
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and analyze in the integration of projectbased learning to support curriculum outcomes;
  • Strong understanding and experience with implementing ontheland curriculum;
  • Skilled in the integration of projectbased learning to support curriculum outcomes;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, support and implement Student Learning Plans, Behaviour Plans, Safety Plans and Individual Education Plans;
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to implement developmentally responsive care and restorative practices;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents and caregivers, establishing cooperative and authentic connections to support the best school experience possible;
  • Desire and passion for developing and maintaining strong and respectful relationships and trust with students, their families, and the community as a whole;
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to implement science of reading approaches to literacy;

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:


  • To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;
  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Relocation may be available.
