Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)Main purpose of job:

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Support to position the UK as a key commercial and environmental partner in Barranquilla and
the Caribbean region:
- Local support for wider British embassy activities. This includes organisation, planning and
- Building and maintaining relations with key government and private sector stakeholders at
- Supporting teams in Bogota to identify opportunities with key stakeholders in Barranquilla and
Bogotá and the UK, providing local knowledge and expertise for decision making processes
and conducting follow up to initiatives in the region.
- Acting as a local specialist, providing advice to Embassy teams on contacts, meetings and
- Actively participate in meetings and briefings of relevance to the role.
Environmental focus:
- Support the Environmental Policy Team within ECS to deliver the biodiversity and oceans portfolio, and in particular the oceans programmes and initiatives to tackle illegal wildlife trade.
- Lead the relationship with stakeholders in Barranquilla on the climate and nature agenda with
- Identifying synergies and opportunities to integrate DIT's work with the UK-COL Partnership.
- Support the Environmental Policy Lead and Head of Oceans and Biodiversity Programmes on
Clean Energy Transition Partnership.
Commercial focus:
- Support stakeholder mapping with Barranquillabased stakeholders and partners on the DIT agenda, especially focusing in the following sectors: offshore/onshore wind, hydrogen, and O&G decommissioning, infrastructure, life sciences, and sports, amongst others according to commercial opportunities.
- Establishing contact with newly identified stakeholders and continue to grow strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Provide continuous support to the partnership between Aberdeen and Barranquilla under the existing energy transition MoU.
- Support DIT by promoting business between British companies and local companies.
- Gain understanding about the opportunities where the UK offer is most relevant locally.
Sustainability and International Trade links:
- Support the DIT and ECS teams in promoting links between the sustainability and trade agendas, in particular by fostering commercial opportunities related to clean energy, sustainable infrastructure and green finance.
Corporate work:
- Actively engage in the wider Embassy activities, participate in committees and events.
- Identify and attend opportunities to improve existing skills and/or develop new ones.
- Fulfil requirements of performance appraisal process, including setting a personal development plan.
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) on International Relations, Business Management, Political Science or similar.
- At least two years of professional experience.
- Fluent in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
- Understanding and knowledge of the business, political and environmental landscape in Barranquilla and the Caribbean region.
- An ability to develop, maintain and work through a strong network of contacts to deliver results.
- A proven ability to communicate clearly and confidently in public, and with contacts at different levels.
- Strong judgement and confident taking decisions without direct supervision.
- Proven ability to work independently and prioritise in order to achieve objectives.
- Must be based in Barranquilla and have the legal status to live and work in Colombia.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Knowledge and interest in international negotiations on climate and biodiversity.
- Knowledge and interest in international trade and investment.
- Track record of interpersonal and relationship building, with private and public sector officials in Barranquilla and the Caribbean region.
- Experience of working with or in the UK.
